There's always ways of managing an operation like this efficiently. Think of it as the film days: it's like somebody who goes out and shoots 1 million feet of film, then complains they have to rent more office space to hold it all. Either that, or shoot in a more efficient codec. If you're dealing with 2TB a day of wildlife material, then my advice would be to go out and buy a whole lot of drives. Now, there's no problem in running out of space. What is possible is to use Media Management: go through your project, use the "Used Media" command to figure out what source files are and are not being used in your current edit, delete them from the Media Pool, and then use Media Management to copy over just the used files to an open drive. One of the key aspects of managing workflow is to be aware at all times of your drive capacity, and to understand how to allocate enough space to get through a project.
One should have to use a proper file manager for file operations, like Windows Explorer or Finder. An NLE should not have the capability to so completely muff a project by accident. To my thinking, that should not be possible. This can be possible by having 2 promts for example or having the action hidden in a submeny for like Tools. How would you suggest we delete videos in Explorer for example? As long as Davinci Resolve is running all those files will be locked so only way is to turn off the software.
